Japan declared war with Germany on August 23, 1914; and declared war with Austria-Hungary on August 25, 1914.

The Peace Treaty of Versailles was an agreement at the end of the war where the British Empire, France, Italy, Japan and the United States formalized Germany’s consequences for the war. Japan ratified the agreement on October 27, 1919.

Territorial changes as a result of the war: The Germany colonies in the Pacific were ceded to Japan.
